Hbo And Comcast Agreement

When asked for comment, a Roku spokesperson said, “As the #1 streaming platform in the U.S., we believe HBO Max would benefit greatly from the size and content marketing capabilities available with streaming on our platform. We`re focused on mutually positive distribution agreements with new services that provide viewers in the more than 40 million households who choose Roku to access their favorite programs and discover new content with a great user experience.¬†The statement adds: “Unfortunately, we have not yet reached an agreement with HBOMax. While we`re not on our platform today, we look forward to helping HBOMax grow its streaming business successfully in the future.¬†Comcast, the nation`s leading provider of cable and broadband television services, and Home Box Office, the largest and most successful premium television company in the United States, today announced that they have renewed their contract to transport the company`s two pay-TV services hbo and Cinemax. In addition to the main HBO and Cinemax channels, the long-term agreement includes the distribution of HBO on-demand and Cinemax on-demand video-on-demand (SVOD) services, as well as high-definition streams from HBO HD and Cinemax HD. No other terms of the agreement were disclosed. The news of Comcasts` deal for the new streaming product comes after WarnerMedia struck a dozen distribution deals ahead of HBO Max`s launch. These include Apple, Google/YouTube TV, Hulu, Charter, Altice USA, Cox, Verizon, Samsung, Microsoft`s Xbox One and Sony`s PlayStation 4. In addition, AT&T, warnerMedia`s parent company, offers various HBO Max bundle offerings and free test offerings. Comcast was one of many HBO distributors when the new HBO Max approached its opening day. It also has no deals with Roku and Amazon.

On launch day, AT&T`s HBO Max struck a deal with Comcast to distribute the new streaming service to its Xfinity customers. WarnerMedia has already had relationships with many distributors to offer cable channel HBO and its standalone streaming channel HBO Now. The AT&T company wanted to support HBO Max registrations by updating Now members at no additional cost, updating the HBO Now app on HBO Max. This is what happened Wednesday morning on the platforms that had contracts with HBO Max. However, since Roku and Amazon have not yet reached an agreement on the terms of a deal, these customers will continue to see the HBO Now app. Comcast and AT&T confirmed their agreement later Wednesday. Although HBO customers can watch HBO Max over the Internet and on all devices that already support the service with X1 and Flex plans, it is still not available to watch it on their TVs with the comcast boxes. The companies are still working to bring an HBO Max app to Comcast`s X1 and Flex cable platforms, they said. HBO Max has overcome one of the last hurdles to distribution in its streaming rollout and announced a distribution deal with Comcast, the No. 1 U.S. cable operator.

“X1 and Flex offer our customers unparalleled depth and breadth of live, on-demand and streaming entertainment, and we look forward to partnering with WarnerMedia to integrate the HBO Max app alongside nearly 200 other streaming services on our platforms, all searchable with the award-winning Xfinity Voice Remote,” said Rebecca Heap, Senior Vice President.
